JULIA PELZER

Vita

In 1977 Julia Pelzer is born in Hamburg to an art teacher and a professor of Egyptology. Her keen interest in oriental ornamentation is deeply influenced and nurtured at an early age, by listening to Arab fairytales told by her father and exploring the extensive home library.

She creates stage sets and illustrates her father's lectures. After her Graduation, she dedicates herself intensively to photography and painting. She continues her studies at the Hamburger Kunstschule, which she graduates from in 2004 at the top of her class.

At an exhibit of the artist Tanahashi, she discovers her fascination for calligraphy and begins to let this new impulse influence her work. Since 2005, Julia Pelzer has been working as an illustrator.

Her clients include the renowned magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Maxi, and Glamour, as well as illustrations done in the name of Condé Nast publications for Veuve Clicquot, Meissen Porcelain, and Renzo Rosso. She illustrates children's books and free-lances for international galleries.

All her motives are created freehand using gouache or ink, without the use of patterns or models. Using digital mixed-media, colour, structure and patterns are then elaborated upon.
